The Fat, Still Only Half-Way Finished Stack

Immortal Iron Fist #14
Sigh. Why does it have to end? (A+)

Thor: Ages Of Thunder #1
Looks like Fraction can do gods too. (A)

New Avengers #40
Told you Bendis wasn't smart enough to have a red herring. Cheung is awesome, by the way. (A-)

X-Men Legacy #210
Still plodding along. It's pretty good, but there's not a single character I care about in it. (B+)

Green Lantern #30
Well crafted, but I'm still waiting to find out why I'm reading this origin story for the hundredth time. (B)

Avengers: The Initiative #12
Those costumes at the end were pretty lame, but nice to see Ms. Marvel's old duds getting some play. (B)

The Order #10
Fun while it lasted, but the atrocious art on this one takes it down a notch. (B-)

DC Universe: Zero
I really could give two @#$%s about Barry Allen at this point. (C)

Action Comics #864
Blargh. We go from the entertaining, Gary Frank penciled Legion story to this talky crapfest that tries to tie Countdown, Brave and the Bold, and the Lightning Saga together. (D)

New Warriors #11
I only read this to see how bad it can possibly get before they cancel it or reveal Night Thrasher as a Skrull. By the way, that Angel chick better be one too. She goes from a sassy street punk in Morrison's X-men to a perfect mother who wonders what the freezing point of steel is, can modify her own ice gauntlets, and changes her race every time there's a different artist? (F-)

RIP Iron Fist

It is official. As of issue 17, Matt Fraction and Ed Brubaker will no longer be writing Immortal Iron Fist. David Aja will also leave the series to make way for the guy who drew Ares. The new writer will be some Polish guy who's writing that horrible new Cable series. This follows the news that Warren Ellis will also be wrapping up his run on Thunderbolts. Uncanny and Astonishing X-men better be good.

The Quick Stack

Captain America #36
Is it wrong to like Cap using a gun so much? Is it wrong to think that the reveal at the end of the issue is coming all too soon? Bucky's Ultimate / John McClane / El Mariachi / Jason Bourne Captain America is actually turning out pretty damn tits. (A+)

Immortal Iron Fist #13
I can't tell you how happy it makes me to know that Brubaker and Fraction will soon be writing 90% of all Marvel comics. Please, somebody give them a damn Avenger book. This Fist ish is mostly setup, but a big payoff is looming. (A-)

Incredible Hercules #115
A youthful obsession with Greek mythology may make me somewhat bias, but this book is some tasty nectar. While Ares' whole loving father side from his mini-series seems to have been wiped from existence, this version of the character is definitely the most fun and "god of war" like so far. Hopefully the Skrulls and Eternals don't @#$% this one up. (A-)

The Order #9
I guess this is the second to last issue and everyone's going to die in the next one. I'm actually fine with that, because as much as I like Fraction's writing on the book, I don't really care about any of the characters and they don't seem to fit in the Marvel Universe anyway. The whole pantheon of the gods idea didn't really get any play either. (B)

Thor #7
Seven issues in and the only person he's sort of fought was Iron Man. And now he's sleeping. (C+)

Iron Man #27
Blah blah, Extremis, blah blah blah. This 32 issue arc is getting old. (C)

Captain Marvel #4
Just skip this Scientology bull@#$% and tell me if he's a Skrull or not. (D)

Amazing Spider-Man #554
Ugh. First of all, if a crystal meth lab caught on fire, it would @#$%ing explode. While OMD was probably the worst comic book story of all time and the whole premise of BND is horribly flawed, the first arc by Slott was actually not too shabby if you ignored everything surrounding it. The next arc, not so good, but mostly because of Jackpot and Ugly Goblin. This latest Bob Gale Freak nonsense, however, makes me want to throw up on my own face and actually watch the terror that is the Spectacular Spider-Man on Saturday morning. Please just put Slott on the book for all time and fix this feces. (F)

New Comic Book Day XI

It's an extremely tough pick for the highlight of the week this Wednesday, with Sinestro causing more yellow fever, Simon Pegg beating up more sexually deviant superheroes, Ed Brubaker writing more Daredevil, Layla Miller knowing more stuff, and the Avengers getting more greener. However, the day belongs to Matt Fraction and the long awaited eighth issue of Casanova. The book basically defies description, but apparently this issue features a foxy future fighter pilot and Dokkktor Klockhammer's horror hospital. Expect lots of timeline / reality jumping and robotic / mutant sexuality. Basically it's James Bond meets A Wrinkle In Time meets Fear And Loathing in the 42nd Nebula.

New Comic Book Day VIII

Well, looks like this week is all about the green. And I'm not just talking Hulk. There'll be a lot of dollars dropped this Wednesday. We get the second chapter in the Earth shattering World War Hulk, plus two tie-ins with Frontline and X-men, plus new issues of Captain America, The Initiative, Avengers Classic, and DC's delightful Brave and the Bold. If that weren't enough, this week is the debut of Matt Fraction's latest Marvel endeavor, The Champions... I mean The Order, and a new mini-series featuring everyone's favorite floating face, MODOK, playing Billy Ocean. For those who aren't aware, THIS is MODOK, perhaps Stan and Jack's greatest creation. THIS is Ms. MODOK. THIS is Baby MODOK. THESE are Avenger MODOKs. And finally, THESE are Elvis MODOKs.

New Comic Book Day VI

This is a heavy buy week, with plenty of World War Hulk and hopefully some X-goodness. The show-stealer, however, is sure to be Immortal Iron Fist #6. With the combined forces of Matt Fraction and Ed Brubaker at the helm, you can hardly go wrong. This issue is the grand finale of "The Last Iron Fist Story" and is sure to be packed with plenty of mystical corporate kung-fu and sexy asian bird chicks.
